Özet

Background and Study Aim: Stay-at-home and other pandemic-related measures taken by governments to combat the COVID-19 pandemic undoubtedly limited the movement that individuals were used to following, disrupting their daily routines. This research aimed to examine the effect of online exercise intervention on sedentary students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: This experimental research is conducted with pre-and post-test repeated measure design. 76 female students (age = 21.70 ± 1.48) voluntarily participated in the study, and they were selected by the convenient sampling method. The intervention programme includes 12 weeks of exercise participation. While the experimental group was included in the exercise intervention, the control group participants did not receive any exercise intervention. The Short Version of the Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS) and Burnout Measure-Short Version (BMS) were used to measure the psychological parameters of the participants. In addition, Speilberger’s Trait Anxiety Scale was used to determine the anxiety traits of the participants. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in psychological resilience (t(74) =-.393, p >.05), burnout (t(74) =-.545, p >.05) and anxiety (t(74) =-.484, p >.05) scores. The one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) had been performed when the pre-test scores were adjusted as covariance. Conclusions: There are numerous implications and limitations when considering the results of this study. First, it should be accounted for that conducting online exercise interventions cannot be ruled out as face-to-face sessions. This is one of the greatest and most important limitation of this study. © 2023, Drustvo Pedagoga Tjelesne i Zdravstvene Kulture. All rights reserved.
