dc.description.abstractSMS is one of the most widely used service of mobile communication. However, an important part of this communication consists of unwanted messages called spam. In this study, a new approach for SMS spam filtering and an Android application of this approach is presented and developed. In this method, spam detection is performed based on changes of the UTF-8 values of the characters. The developed approach is tested on two different data sets and 94.64% and 98.85% success rates have been achieved, respectively. The obtained results demonstrate that the developed method can be successfully used.
