Özet

This study was conducted to determine the distribution, some bioecological aspects and natural enemies of Cicadivetta tibialis (Panzer, 1798) (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) that damage on cherry trees in İzmir province of Turkey in 2005 - 2008. To determine the distribution of C. tibialis, investigations were carried out in 17 districts of İzmir and a total 98 orchards were controlled. C. tibialis was found in 55.10% of all orchards. For biology investigation, visual inspections was done in an orchard in Kemalpaşa (Yukarıkızılca), Izmir, Turkey. Besides visually counting of the adults, the shed skins of nymphs were counted at the base of the trunk and under the canopy of 10 trees in that orchard. In addition, 10 wooden crates were put under 10 trees in this orchard and checked periodically to monitor the adult emergence. According to the results of this study, the first adults of C. tibialis started to appear in the second week of may. The flying period began in mid-may and finished towards beginning of august. Flight duration of this species is about 71-80 days. The maximum adult emergence occurred between mid-june and beginning of july. Population density was changed from year to year. The most of adults were observed in 2008 and least in 2005. Adults were observed chiefly on cherry trees and to a lesser extent on bird cherry trees and fruit trees such as olive, peach, plum, apricot and herbaceous plants such as Sorghum halepense L. and Chenopodium album L. Females lay eggs on the twigs of cherry, olive, bird cherry, peach trees and stem of Sorghum halepense and have preference for the most slight twigs. Although it varies according to years, the first eggs were observed in the first week of june. Eggs laid in the first week of june did not began to hatch until the end of july. Incubation period lasted 43-56 days. The hatched eggs produce nymphs which quickly leave the laying site to live in the soil where feed on the roots of different plant species. It was determined that two spider species namely, Argiope lobata (Pallas, 1772) and Areneus triguttatus (Fabricius, 1775) (Araneae: Araneidae) were feeding on adults of C. tibialis.
