Özet
This study has been designed to reveal the metaphorical language use both in English and Turkishbased on translations of technical and economic texts. In so doing, the three categories ofmetaphors developed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) were used to analyse the data obtained fromvarious online news agencies and platforms in which technical analysis are provided. These threemetaphors are: structural, orientational, and ontological metaphors. Approximately 50 words andphrases were collected from these platforms and agencies to conduct an analysis regarding howtranslations of these metaphors are done into Turkish and whether these metaphors haveequivalent words and phrases in Turkish. Following an analysis of these metaphors based on thethree categories of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), it was concluded that the advantage of the Englishspeakingworld in having a language which is lingua franca all over the world makes it possible tomake use of a plethora of metaphors, whereas Turkish language has a more standardizedmetaphorical use not because the Turkish language is not fitted but because English is the firstlanguage that draws upon emerging words and phrases that may have undergone change in termsof meaning.
