Abstract

Small-scale and fragmented farms is one of the most important agricultural problem in Turkey. At the same time, increasing population and fragmented agricultural land in the world make the getting maximum level of small farming areas a necessity. Greenhouse agriculture is the leading method for achieving higher efficiency from the unit side. According to Turkish Statistical Institute data, in 2018 greenhouse area were 77.21 ha in Turkey. Of this area, of 47.73% represents plastic greenhouses, 27.36% low tunnels, 14.80% high tunnels and 10.12% glasshouses. In 2018, total greenhouse area in Turkey were 44.664 ha, from this 57.55% belongs to Antalya. In Siirt province, greenhouse area were 5.3 ha in 2018 and all of them are made of plastic greenhouse. In this study, current agricultural structure and greenhouse activities in Siirt province are examined and what can be done about greenhouse production were discussed. In the study, some previous research findings and data from Turkish Statistical Institute and Republic of Turkey Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry were utilized.
