Öğe Change of Vitamin D Levels According to Age, Gender and Seasons in ??rnak Province(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Tahiroglu, Veysel; Alayunt, Naci OmerObjective: This study determines the 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] profile according to season, age, and gender by examining the vitamin D levels of the patients who applied to Cizre State Hospital, which is the warmest district of Turkey, in 2021.Materials and Methods: 13,387 patients admitted to Cizre State Hospital were included in the study, and their [25(OH)D] levels were analyzed retrospectively. In the study, [25(OH)D] levels were evaluated according to the age, gender and seasonal differences of the patients. [25(OH)D] levels in serum are <12 ng/mL, severe deficiency, 12-20 ng/mL mild-moderate deficiency, 21-30 ng/mL insufficient, >30 ng/mL conditions were accepted as qualifications. Results: The findings of 9,800 women and 3,587 men were evaluated in the study. The mean serum level of [25 (OH)D] was 12.31 +/- 0.08 ng/ mL in women and 17.58 +/- 0.15 ng/mL in men. Amongst the age groups, vitamin D levels in both male and female patients were statistically significant (p<0.01). Statistically significant changes were identified across seasons, with [25(OH)D] levels in both women and men being lowest in winter and greatest in summer (p<0.01).The mean [25(OH)D] level was 18.51 +/- 0.17 ng/mL in patients aged 0-15 years (n=3,219), 11.86 +/- 0.12 ng/mL in patients aged 16-30 years (n=4,093), between 31-45 years old 12.12 +/- 0.14 ng/mL in patients (n=3,008), 12.39 +/- 0.18 ng/mL in patients aged 46-60 years (n=1,817), and 13.40 +/- 0.28ng/mL in patients aged 61-75 years (n=962).Conclusion: In this study, very serious vitamin D deficiency was detected in patients admitted to Cizre State Hospital. It is thought that low vitamin D levels may be related to the absence of vitamin D synthesis because of insufficient sunlight in winter, the closed dressing habits of the region, or foods deficient in vitamin D. Because of this study, the need for supportive treatment gained more importance.Öğe Evaluation of some biochemical parameters of pediatric patients hospitalized for rotavirus in Şırnak Province: A retrospective review(2023) Sonmez, Erhan; Tahiroglu, Veysel; Coskun, Erkam; Alayunt, Naci OmerRotavirus gastroenteritis is an important cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality in infants and children. The main cause of mortality is dehydration due to fluid loss and malnutrition. This study aims to examine the guiding parameters of uric acid and creatinine levels in the detection of dehydration and fluid deficit and inpatient management in cases of rotavirus gastroenteritis. Children who applied to Şırnak State Hospital, Pediatrics Polyclinics, children (6 months-18 years old) whose faecal samples were sent to the laboratory by the research pediatrician considering the diagnosis of rotavirus and whose microbiological examinations were confirmed by immunochromatographic methods (6 months-18 years old), were included in the study by scanning the system. When positive patients were evaluated, the mean age for serum uric acid was 1.06±1.53 and the mean age for serum creatinine was 1.10±1.37. The median value was 3.75 mg/dL in negative patients with serum uric acid levels, and 5.25 mg/dL in positive patients, which was statistically significant (p<0.01). The median value of serum creatinine level was 0.41 mg/dL in negative patients and 0.43 mg/dL in positive patients, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). With this study carried out in Şırnak province, we think that children in the region are severely affected by the rotavirus and face severe dehydration. Therefore, we think that all parameters affected by rotavirus should be evaluated according to regions and parents should be educated about the importance of rotavirus vaccine in the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis.Öğe Folate, Vitamin B12 and Serum Ferritin Levels by Age and Gender in Children Presenting with Protein and Energy Insufficiency: A Retrospective Review(Istanbul Univ, 2023) Tahiroglu, Veysel; Coskun, Erkam; Sonmez, Erhan; Alayunt, Naci OmerObjectives: The aim of this study is to determine the levels of folate, vitamin B12, and ferritin according to gender and age groups in children who visited the hospital with the complaint of protein and energy deficiency. Methods: Folate levels of 74 patients with protein and energy deficiency complaints, vitamin B12 levels of 184 patients, and ferritin levels of 187 people who were admitted to the hospital were included in the study. The hospital reference ranges for children were used to diagnose folate, vitamin B12, and ferritin levels and to determine their normal ranges. Results: When the folate levels were examined in the study, it was determined that approximately 2% of the children in the 0-6 age group were below <3.89 ng/mL, and all of the children in the 7-18 age group were within the normal range. When the vitamin B12 levels are examined, it was determined that 3.3% of the children had a vitamin B12 level below 191 ng/L, and 14.3% of the 7-18 age group were below 191 ng/L. Considering the ferritin levels, it was determined that 51.6% of the children were below 30 mu g/L. When evaluated according to gender, the majority of folate and B12 levels in both men and women were within the normal range, while 47.1% of women and 41% of men had ferritin levels below the normal range. Conclusion: It was observed that the folate, vitamin B12, and ferritin levels of the patients could vary according to geographical regions. The pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is not fully understood and that new biomarkers for the condition should be presented. Objectives. Our study aimed to determine the blood levels of some biochemical molecules and peptide proteins in AD, which is accepted as the most common cause of dementia in the world, and to elucidate the relationship between them.Materials and methods. The study consisted of 2 groups: 40 newly diagnosed AD patients and 40 healthy individuals. Plasma levels between the 2 groups and the correlation between them were statistically analyzed.Results. The median brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) level in the AD group was found to be higher and statistically significant compared to the control group (p = 0.033).Conclusions. According to our literature review, this is the first article in which these molecules have been studied together in AD patients. In this study, we revealed the importance of these parameters and especially the instrumental role of BDNF in the form and function of the brain in AD patients. Interestingly, in the patient group, all parameters in our study showed a positive and significant positive relationship with one another (p < 0.001).
