The study was conducted based on the Randomized Blocks Testing Design with repeated four times. In the experiment, treatments of 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%, 4.0%, and 5.0% mL doses of wood vinegar were administered, and only tap water was given to the control group. It was found that the 4% mL dose had positive effects on cultivated plant height and that the 1% mL dose had positive effects on thousand kernel weight and seed per spike compared with the control. It was seen that its effect on weeds dry weight is changed according to the years (P=0.011). In 2015-2016, it was found that 3% mL increased and 0.5%, 1% and %5 mL decreased the weight of dry grass. In the test field; weeds determination is made from 12 families. In 2014-2015, Polygonum bellardii, Eremopoa altaica and Microthlaspi perfoliatum; and in 2015-2016, Eremopoa altaica, Erodium absinthoides, Lactuca serriola and Polygonum bellardii was seen most.Öğe Bellevalia behcetii sp nov (Asparagaceae): a new species from South Eastern Anatolia, Turkey(Magnolia Press, 2016) Pinar, Suleyman Mesut; Eroglu, Huseyin; Fidan, MehmetBellevalia behcetii (Asparagaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Sirnak province in South Eastern Anatolia (Turkey). It is morphologically similar to B. paradoxa but easily differs in several morphological characters. Diagnostic morphological characters, a full description and detailed illustrations of the new species are provided. A quantitative morphometric analysis was carried out to check the diagnostic characters of Bellevalia behcetii with respect to morphologically related species. The somatic chromosome number was determined as 2n = 2x = 8 in B. behcetii. In addition, the ecology and phenology of the new species, as well as its etymology and the pollen characteristics, are presented and discussed. The conservation status of B. behcetii was assessed according to IUCN protocol. A distribution map of B. behcetii and related species is also presented.Öğe Comprehensive appraisement of antioxidant potential and phytochemical profile of native botanicals from Turkey(Springer, 2019) Erez, Mehmet Emre; Dalar, Abdullah; Fidan, Mehmet; Pinar, Suleyman MesutThis study presents the first comprehensive evaluation of antioxidant potential and phytochemical profiling of nine plant taxa utilized in southeastern and eastern parts of Turkey for various medicinal purposes, in order to contribute the scientific database, which was focused on exploring novel candidates of antioxidant agents from natural sources for industry and complementary medicine. Sequential extracts were prepared from plant materials were prepared through treating different solvents (acetone, ethanol, and water) based on polarity index. According to antioxidant assays via hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and single atom transfer (SET) mechanisms, acetone extracts were found as the efficient antioxidant sources. Chromatographic studies revealed that phenolic compounds (mainly 5-O-Caffeoylquinic acid, luteolin hexoside, quercetin and rutin) were characterized as major hydrophilic phytochemical compounds and fatty acids (princibally linolenic, palmitic, and linoleic acids) were found as the major volatile compounds that dominantly contribute to the pronounced antioxidant capacities. According to the chemical structure, catechol moiety containing plant extracts had superior antioxidant capacity both for HAT and SET mechanisms. Data obtained from this study showed that among native botanicals, Crepis hakkarica, Crepis gemicii, Laserpitium carduchorum and Hedysarum vanaense might serve bioactive antioxidant agents both for industrial and pharmaceutical use.Öğe Determination of Biological Activity and Active Substances of Thecocarpus Carvifolius (BOISS.) Hedge & Lamond(Springer, 2021) Pinar, Suleyman Mesut; Erez, Mehmet Emre; Fidan, Mehmet; Erodlu, Huseyin; Dalar, AbdullahWe have studied the antioxidant activity and analyzed active substances of the aqueous and methanol extracts of endemic species Thecocarpus carvifolius Hedge and Lamond. The antioxidant activity was identified and assessed using the DPPH, FRAP and iron chelating capacity assay. Active substances were detection, total phenolic, flavonoids and volatile compounds were analyzed. According to DPPH analyzes, the inhibition percentage was 48.57% for aqueous extract and 76.34% for methanol extract. The FRAP reduction capacity was determined as 3.32 mg/mL for aqueous extract and 11.75 mg/mL FESO4 for methanol extract. The total concentrations of phenolics and flavonoids were calculated as 64.08 - 35.29 mu g/mL and 146.84 - 555.66 mu g/mL in aqueous and methanol extracts, respectively. Finally, five volatile compounds were detected in methanol extracts. The results indicated that the endemic species of T. carvifolius can be evaluated as a natural antioxidant plant.Öğe Seed micromorphology and anatomy of 36 Muscari (Asparagaceae) taxa from Turkey with notes on their systematic importance(Univ Zagreb, Fac Science, Div Biology, 2021) Eroglu, Huseyin; Karaismailoglu, Mehmet Cengiz; Pinar, Suleyman Mesut; Fidan, Mehmet- This study presents the first in-depth evaluation of the morphological and anatomical characters, as well as their taxonomic importance, of the seeds of 36 taxa in subgenera Muscari, Leopoldia, Pseudomuscari and Botryanthus of the genus Muscari in Turkey, where 24 of the taxa are endemic. The results indicate that the taxa generally differ from each other in terms of seed shape and dimension. Seed dimensions vary between 1.66 mm and 3.21 mm in length, and between 1.12 mm and 2.63 mm in width. The seed surface ornamentation is grouped into nine forms: ru- minate, reticulate, reticulate-areolate, reticulate-foveate, alveolate, scalariform, rugose, verrucate and areolate. The most common type is ruminate, while areolate, reticulate-foveate and scalariform ornamentation forms were found to be taxon-specific. Testa structures of the taxa examined consist in general of two different layers: the epidermis and the subepidermis in scleranchymatous or parenchymatous structures. The subepidermis may be absent in some of taxa. The structure and thickness of the epidermis and the subepidermis are very important characteristics that dis- close interspecific relations among the examined taxa. We also provide a key for the identification of the studied taxa based on seed features.Öğe Seed Morphological and Anatomical Structures as Taxonomy Tool for Turkish Hyacinthella Schur (Asparagaceae) Taxa(Magnolia Press, 2022) Eroglu, Huseyin; Karaismailoglu, Mehmet Cengiz; Fidan, Mehmet; Pinar, Suleyman MesutThis paper offers the first taxonomic assessment of the morphological and anatomical characters of the seeds of 11 Hyacinthella taxa from Turkey, ten of them are endemic, with the cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Macro-morphologically, all studied species can be differentiated from each other by the seed characters such as shape, size and surface ornamentation. The studied seeds are separated into 5 shapes; triangularis, circularis, ellipticus, ellipticus-late and ovatus. Seed size ranges from 1.51 mm to 3.06 mm in length and from 1.06 mm to 2.04 mm in width. Micro -morphologically, seed surface ornamentation is grouped into 7 types: rugose, reticulate-pusticulate, verrucate, tuberculate, ruminate, reticulate-foveate and alveolate. Anatomically, testa structures of the studied seeds are usually consisted of single layer, the epidermis, formed in the sclerenchymatous tissue. The epidermis layer demonstrates significant differences in cell form, comprising of crushed, flat or polygonal cells, in 1-7 layers, and has surged or straight wall form. The thickness of testa layers varies between 15.77 mu m (in H. micrantha) and 49.76 mu m (in H. campanulata). In the systematics of the genus Hyacinthella, the seed morphological and anatomical characters are very important characteristics that reveal inter-specific relationships among the studied species. Also, a dichotomous key is provided for the identification of the examined species based on seed characters.
