Green nanomaterials in sample pre-treatment processes
(Elsevier B.V., 2024) Canpolat, Gurbet; Dolak, İbrahim; Keçili, Rüstem; Hussain, Chaudhery Mustansar
Extraction is an important step in sample pre-treatment processes for the efficient removal of an analyte of interest from a complex matrix. Removal of harmful pollutants from contaminated food, environmental, and biological samples is a crucial demand. Green extraction techniques have been developed as greener and more sustainable alternatives to traditional sample preparation methods. These techniques aim to improve the selectivity and sensitivity of analytical methods and simultaneously reducing the harmful side effects of conventional extraction techniques. Green nanomaterials have advanced extraction technologies due to their unique physicochemical features and facile surface functionalization. This chapter presents the synthesis of green nanomaterials and their use in analytical applications, with a special focus on their roles as sorbent materials. © 2024

    Sample Preparation with Conductive Polymers
(American Chemical Society, 2022) Canpolat, Gurbet; Dolak, Ibrahim; Hussain, Chaudhery Ghazanfar; Keçili, Rüstem; Hussain, Chaudhery Mustansar
This chapter presents and highlights the latest progress in the synthesis andapplications of conductive polymers and their nanocomposites as powerfulsorbents in different sample preparation techniques including solid-phaseextraction, solid-phase microextraction, dispersive solid-phase extraction, andmagnetic solid-phase extraction. The review covers the extraction of heavy metalsand organic analytes from various food, environmental, and biological samplessuch as water, urine, and blood. In addition, electrochemical electrodes based onCPs and their composites are also summarized. © 2022 American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.

    Smartphone-based optical and electrochemical sensing
(Elsevier, 2021) Keçili, Rüstem; Ghorbani-Bidkorbeh, Fatemeh; Dolak, Ibrahim; Canpolat, Gurbet; Hussain, Chaudhery Mustansar
Smartphones are emerging as potential replacements for the instrumentation involved in performing various sensing applications such as fast diagnostic tests. This is fueled in part by the gradual increase of billions of smartphone users (~ 3.5 billion users in 2020) even in low-income countries. In this chapter, the latest advancements on the design, development and successful applications of smartphone-based optical (colorimetric, fluorescence, chemiluminescence etc.) and electrochemical sensor platforms was highlighted and overviewed. It starts with the sifnigifance and superior features of the smartphones in the introduction part. In the next sections, optical sensing and electrochemical sensing based on smartphone technology and various important examples from the literature are demonstrated. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
