Öğe Functionalized magnetic nanoparticles as powerful sorbents and stationary phases for the extraction and chromatographic applications(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2021) Kecili, Rustem; Ghorbani-Bidkorbeh, Fatemeh; Dolak, Ibrahim; Canpolat, Gurbet; Karabork, Muharrem; Hussain, Chaudhery MustansarMaterials in nanodimensions such as magnetic nanoparticles exibit fascinating physico-chemical features (i.e. high surface area, very small size, superparamagnetism, active surface which can be successfully functionalized, low toxicity, etc). Because of these superior features, functionalized magnetic nanoparticles received increasing attention for tremendous amount of studies over the last years and a number of successful applications were published. This paper aims to present and highlight the latest progresses in the development of novel functionalized magnetic nanoparticles for the extraction and chromatographic applications. This is fueled in part by the gradual increase of billions of smartphone users (~ 3.5 billion users in 2020) even in low-income countries. In this chapter, the latest advancements on the design, development and successful applications of smartphone-based optical (colorimetric, fluorescence, chemiluminescence etc.) and electrochemical sensor platforms was highlighted and overviewed. It starts with the sifnigifance and superior features of the smartphones in the introduction part. In the next sections, optical sensing and electrochemical sensing based on smartphone technology and various important examples from the literature are demonstrated. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
