Öğe An exploratory study on determining motivations, constraints, and strategies for coping with constraints to participate in outdoor recreation activities: Generation Z(International Hellenic University, 2024) Ya?mur, Yenal; Demirel, AltanPurpose: The present study aimed to investigate the behaviors and preferences of university studentgeneration Z members towards outdoor activities based on the theory of leisure constraints. Methods: In this study, qualitative research methods and phenomenological design were adopted to reveal the behaviors and preferences of Z generation members towards recreational activities in depth. Content analysis was performed on 95 data obtained by convenience sampling. Results: The push-pull model developed was adapted as five themes in the context of recreation: social, physical, environmental, personal requirements, and spiritual regeneration-health. The strategies for coping with the constraints existing in the literature exactly overlap with the aggregate dimensions suggested in this research, and the difference in the context of outdoor recreation is based on the theme. The avoidance-ignoring theme is handled under the cognitive strategy aggregate dimension, while the behavioral strategy aggregate dimension comprises personal skills, environmental, social, planning, and financial themes. In addition, the classification of experience gained in the context of tourism as triple effects (immediate, destination, and global) has been expanded in the context of recreation by adding a new experience effect (individual-personal). Implications: The research outputs obtained through content analyses will provide concrete data for relevant literature and recreation industry stakeholders. © 2024 Authors.Öğe The new phenomenon of authentic experience in the tourism industry(IGI Global, 2022) Yağmur, Yenal; Demirel, AltanGlobal competition conditions in the tourism sector are getting more intense day by day, and tourist behavior is changing in many ways. In this respect, the ability of businesses to adapt to these situations is a prerequisite for their survival in the future. Businesses in the tourism industry need to develop strategies and understanding that will emphasize the uniqueness of the products they offer and highlight the difference of products from others. Also, businesses need to develop a different strategy or understanding to provide tourists with an unforgettable experience and competitive advantage. The facts that the basic component of the experiential marketing paradigm is experience and that experience is the essence of tourism products have led this paradigm to come to the fore in terms of tourism businesses. This study aims to reveal how businesses can adapt themselves to this new paradigm by emphasizing the importance of experience marketing for businesses in the tourism industry. © 2022, IGI Global.Öğe Top quality hotel managers' perspectives on smart technologies: an exploratory study(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2024) Yagmur, Yenal; Demirel, Altan; Kilic, Guel DamlaPurposeThe main purpose of the study is to reveal the hotel managers' perspectives strategies, and predictions on smart technologies, and their expectations for current staff and potential staff to be employed in the future.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative research approach was used to reveal the internal perspectives of managers to determine their Smart Tourism (ST) perspectives. With the snowball sampling method, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 16 senior hotel managers working in a 5-star hotel in Antalya. The data obtained were carried out with inductive content analysis and descriptive analysis from qualitative research analysis methods.FindingsIn this study, hotel managers' broad perspectives on ST were discussed in depth and presented comprehensively. Managers' perceptions of smart technologies are classified in terms of aggregate dimensions and themes. Among the most important findings, rapidity/quickness, managing/holistic assessment, standardization, harmony/integration-coordination and experience-memory, defined as the crossroads of total dimensions or the heart of smart technologies, were identified as the most important themes. In addition, Stylos et al. (2021), another important finding is the classification of technologies used in top-quality hotels, based on the conceptual framework for smart technologies presented in the literature.Practical implicationsThe effective and efficient use of technology, its internalization and openness to technology provides important advantages in hotels such as increasing revisits and satisfaction, providing loyalty and reducing costs. Thus, the perceptions, practices, strategies and prediction of senior managers working in high-level hotels about ST provide valuable data to other hotels that want to survive in the competition.Originality/valueFrom a theoretical point of view, this study is valuable in that it deals with the ST perceptions of senior managers with an exploratory research approach. Managerially, the research findings offer valuable contribution about the attitudes, trends, forecasts and expectations of senior managers working in high-level hotels towards ST.
