DETERMINATION OF HARMFUL INSECT SPECIES IN ZIVZIK POMEGRANATE PRODUCTION AREAS OF SIIRT PROVINCE*
(Univ Quindio, 2023) Kaplan, Cevdet; Dilmen, Halil; Ciftci, Mustafa Cemal; Cakmak, Suna
Zivzik pomegranate is an important source of income for producers in Siirt province. There are many harmful insect species that cause loss of yield and quality in pomegranate. This study was carried out to determine the pest insect species in Zivzik pomegranate production areas in Siirt province and its districts in 2018 and 2019. The study was conducted total in 38 orchards in 12 villages in 3 districts (Central, Sirvan and Pervari). To determine the insect species, samples were collected with pheromone trap, shoot cutting, visual inspection, Japanese umbrella and cultivation methods. As a result of the studies, a total of 24 harmful insect species belonging to 7 orders and 19 families were identified. Among these species, Carob moth (Ectomyelois ceratoniae (Zeller, 1839)), Pomegranate aphid (Aphis punicae Passerini, 1863) and Chrysobothris affinis (Fabricius, 1794) were found to be important species. dried fruit beetle (Carpophilus spp.) fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster Meigen, 1830), Ash whitefly (Siphoninus phillyreae (Haliday, 1835)), leopard moth borer (Zeuzera pyrina Linnaeus, 1761) and Tenuipalpus granati Sayed, 1946 were determined as secondary pests. Furthermore, Chrysobothris affinis (Fabricius, 1794) detected in this study is the first record for the pomegranate fauna of Turkey.

(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2013) Ciftci, Mustafa Cemal; Hasbenli, Abdullah
This study is based on Empis and Rhamphomyia (Diptera: Empididae) specimens collected from the Marmara Region between the years 2008 and 2010. Out of a total of 28 species that were found in this study, 14 species are new records for the Turkish fauna. Distributions of these species in Turkey have been mapped, and the Palaearctic distributions were given. Geographic distributions of all species are further discussed.

POPULATION FLUCTUATIONS OF THE PISTACHIO TWIG BORER, KERMANIA PISTACIELLA AMSEL AND ITS PARASITOIDS
(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2021) Kaplan, Cevdet; Ciftci, Mustafa Cemal
This study was conducted in Siirt, Turkey in 2016-2017 to determine the distribution, population fluctuations, and parasitoids of the pistachio twig borer, Kermania pistaciella Amsel, 1964 (Lepidoptera: Oinophilidae). The population fluctuations of K. pistaciella were monitored by pheromone traps in four orchards, The distribution and the identification of its parasitoids were performed by visual examination in a total of 66 orchards and by rearing in the laboratory. Parasitoids were obtained from K. pistaciella pupae kept in boxes at room conditions. Kermania pistaciella males were started to be caught by pheromone traps on April 8 and April 12 in the first and second years, respectively. The adult flight continued until May 16 in the first year and June 4 in the second year. The peak of the adults caught by traps occurred on April 25-29 in the first year, and on April 26 -May 4 in the second year, respectively. Three parasitoid species were identified from the pupae of K. pistaciella, including Centistidea (Paracentistidae) pistaciella van Achterber & Mehrnejad, 2002 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), Chelonus chetini Beyarslan & Sahan, 2019 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), and Gelis areator (Panzer, 1804) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae). Centistidea pistaciella parasitoid species is the first records of K. pistaciella parasitoid in Turkey.

Three new species, Hilara elifae Ciftci & D. Ciftci sp. nov. (Hilara interstincta-group), Hilara ardahanensis Ciftci & Can sp. nov. (Hilara abdominalis-group) and Hilara hasbenlii Ciftci sp. nov. (Hilara maura-group) are described from central (Sivas province) and northeastern (Ardahan province) Turkey. Two new species of Hilara Meigen, 1822 (Diptera: Empididae) from Mount Nemrut (Bitlis, Turkiye)
(Entomological Soc Turkey, Ege Univ, 2023) Ciftci, Mustafa Cemal
Hilara Meigen, 1822 (Diptera: Empididae) is a very difficult genus to identify in the Empididae, however, several researchers have divided the genus Hilara into fourteen species groups for convenience. The current study identified two new species of Hilara Meigen, 1822. The materials used in this study were collected in the vicinity of Nemrut Mountain Crater Lake from Bitlis Province in May 2021 by using a collection net. Hilara nemrutica spec. nov. (Hilara maura-group) and Hilara derenae spec. nov. (Hilara interstincta-group) from Bitlis province, Turkiye, are described, male genitalia and forelegs are illustrated, and distinguished from closely related congeners.
