Öğe A Serologic Survey on Canine Leishmaniasis in Kocaeli, Sakarya, Mersin and Elazig Provinces of Turkey(Israel Veterinary Medical Assoc, 2018) Utuk, A. E.; Gokmen, Guven T.; Bolacali, M.; Balkaya, I; Simsek, S.The aims of this pilot study were to determine the seroprevalence of canine leishmaniasis in Kocaeli, Sakarya, Mersin and Elazig provinces and make a general evaluation of the serologic prevelence of Canine Leishmaniasis (CanL) in Turkey. For this purpose, 111 sera were collected from dogs of different breeds, ages and sexes. Anti-Leishmania IgG antibodies were detected with a commercially available IFAT kit. The relationship between location, breed, age, sex and the seropositivity were evaluated with Chi Square (X-2) test. At the end of the study, the overall seroprevalence was determined as 7.20% (8/111). Seroprevalance rates were 5%, 10.52% and 18.75% in Sakarya, Kocaeli and Mersin provinces, respectively; however, no antibodies were detected in dogs from Elazig. There was no statistical difference in breed, sex and age groups (P>0.05). The prevalence of infection in the province of Mersin was significantly higher than in Elazig (p<0.05). The mean seroprevalence of CanL was calculated as 7.29% for Turkey, which is similar to our results (7.20%). In this study, we gave information about the serostatus of CanL in four different provinces of Turkey. We consider that further studies are required for a clearer understanding of the parasite epidemiology and effective control measures.Öğe A serologic survey on canine leishmaniasis in Kocaeli, Sakarya, mersin and elazığ Provinces of Turkey(Israel Veterinary Medical Association, 2018) Utuk, Armağan Erdem; Guven Gokmen, T.; Bolacali, M.; Balkaya, I.; Simsek, S.The aims of this pilot study were to determine the seroprevalence of canine leishmaniasis in Kocaeli, Sakarya, Mersin and Elazığ provinces and make a general evaluation of the serologic prevelence of Canine Leishmaniasis (CanL) in Turkey. Y.; Bolacali, M.; Ergiden, Y.; Gurgoze, S.The aim of this study is to determine the serum amino acid profile using Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS / MS) in healthy male and female geese of the same age that were raised in similar care and feeding conditions. The animal material of the study consisted of a total of 41 geese, 18 male, and 23 female of the same age (9 months). After a 12h fasting period of the geese, blood samples were taken from V. subcutanaeulnaris into tubes without anticoagulant. After separating the serums, the samples were preserved at -20 degrees C degrees until Methylglutaryl (Met-Glu), Valine (Val), Leucyl-Isoleucine (Leu-Ile), Methionine (Met), Phenylalanine (Phe), Argininosuccinate (ASA), Tyrosine (Tyr), Aspartic acid (Asp), Alanine (Ala), Arginine (Arg), Citrulline (Cit), Glycine (Gly), Ornithine (Orn), Glutamic acid (Glu) were analyzed. The Val, Asp, Arg, Cit, Gly, and Orn levels of male geese were higher compared to female geese in the research (p<0.05). It was determined that Asp, Arg, Cit, and Gly levels increased as the body weights of the geese increased (p<0.05). It was also determined that the effect of Gender x Body Weight interaction on Val, Cit, and Orn levels was significant (p<0.05). As a result; it has been concluded that the serum amino acid profile of healthy geese can vary according to gender and live weight, and more studies are needed to elucidate the reasons for these changes.Öğe Dietary fig seeds improve growth performance and antioxidant capacity of quail(South African Journal Of Animal Sciences, 2023) Tufan, T.; Bolacali, M.; Irak, K.; Arslan, C.; Ozcan, C.; Kaplan, O.; Irmak, M.The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of fig seed (FS) as a feed additive in quail rations on growth performance, carcass parameters, and antioxidant status. A total of 2000 one day-old quail chicks were allocated to a control diet (C; n = 400) or diets supplemented with 0.25% (FS0.25; n = 400), 0.50% (FS0.50; n = 400), 0.75% (FS0.75; n = 400), and 1.00% (FS1.00; n = 400) FS. There were five replicates of 80 chicks for each treatment. At the end of the study, the highest body weights and average daily live weight gains were observed in the FS1.00 group, whereas the lowest BW was observed in the control group. There was no statistical difference between the groups in terms of feed consumption, but the feed conversion ratios of all experimental groups were higher than the control group. The addition of FS had a marked effect on slaughter, hot, and cold carcass weights; and leg, chest, and wing weights compared to the control. Addition of FS to the ration increased total protein and albumin levels, whereas it decreased total oxidant status and alkaline phosphatase. Glucose and uric acid values showed a variable trend. As a consequence, it was concluded that the addition of fig seed as a feed additive at 0.50-1.00% of quail rations could be beneficial based on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and blood parameters.Öğe Effect of non-genetic factors on milk yields traits in Simmental cows raised subtropical climate condition(Arquivo Brasileiro Medicina Veterinaria Zootecnia, 2018) Bolacali, M.; Ozturk, Y.The aim of this study was to identify non-genetic parameters affecting the milk yield traits of Simmental cows raised in subtropical climate conditions. Records on 1904 lactation events of Simmental cows (N=706) during 2001-2014 were included in this study. A generalized linear model was used to investigate the effect of nongenetic factors (calving year, season, and age; lactation number; birth type; and calf sex) on real milk yield (MY), adjusted 305-d lactation milk yield (305-d MY), adjusted mature-age 305-d lactation milk yield (305-d MAMY), lactation length (LL), and dry periods (DP). The MY, 305-d MY, 305-d MAMY, LL, and DP were 6413.04kg, 6060.30kg, 6871.21 kg, 329.88d, and 57.67d, respectively, in Simmental cows. The effects of calving year, birth type, and calf sex on MY were significant (P<0.05). Calving year, calving age, birth type, and calf sex had significant effects on 305-d MY (P<0.05). The 305-d MAMY was significantly affected by calving year, birth type, and calf sex (P<0.05). In conclusion, based on the findings of the present study, the milk yield traits of Simmental cows raised at subtropical climate conditions with ideal feeding and management strategies was in accordance with world standards.Öğe Effect of non-genetic factors on reproductive traits in simmental cows reared in subtropical climate condition(Pakistan Agricultural Scientists Forum, 2017) Bolacali, M.; Öztürk, Y.This study aimed to determine reproductive traits, such as gestation length (GL), service period (SP), calving interval (CI), number of insemination per pregnancy (NIPC), and first calving age (FCA) and to reveal the non-genetic parameters affecting these traits in Simmental cows raised at a private farm in Çorum Province under subtropical climate conditions according to Trewartha climate grading and Csb based on the Köppen–Geiger system. A total of 1904 reproduction performance records of 706 Simmental cows raised between 2001 and 2014 were utilized in this study. The GL, SP, CI, NIPC, and FCA were 283.19 days, 116.41 days, 394.30 days, 1.75, and 847.0 days, respectively, for the Simmental cows in the study. The effects of calving year (P<0.001), lactation parity (P<0.05), calving age (P<0.001), birth type (P<0.001) and parity (P<0.001) on GL were significant. Among the factors affecting SP, the effects of calving year and calving season were significant (P<0.01). Calving year, lactation parity, and calving season were significant at different levels for CI. Among the evaluated factors affecting NIPC, calving year, lactation parity, calving season, calving age, and calving year had significant effects (P<0.001, P<0.05). Year, calving age, and calving season were significant (P<0.001) for FCA. As the values for reproductive traits, namely, GL, SP, CI, NIPC, and FCA, were generally within standard values for the Simmental cows, herd management programs seemed to be properly performed at the farm where the study was conducted. Moreover, Simmental cows were successfully raised under subtropical climate conditions. © 2017, Pakistan Agricultural Scientists Forum. One thousand chicks were allocated to five replicates of treatment and gender groups composed of 20 chicks. The treatments were a basal diet and four groups augmented with 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.00% DPE. The interaction of gender and treatment was significant for bodyweight (BW) at 42 days, average daily bodyweight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), weights of most carcass components, and the serum profile. Females had better performance to 42 days than males (P<0.05). In addition, females had higher hot and cold carcass weights, breast percentage, liver percentage, intestine percentage, total protein, albumin, triglyceride (TRIG), total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), and oxidative stress indexes (OSIs) (P<0.001). Males had higher percentages of hot carcass, cold carcass and heart, and their levels of cholesterol (CHOL), highdensity lipoprotein (HDL), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) values were greater than females (P<0.001). Birds fed 0.50% DPE grew faster, were more efficient, and had heavier live and carcass weights at 42 days than those fed the basal diet. However, treatment effects and their interaction with gender on growth, feed intake and the serum profile were unremarkable compared to the gender main effect. Dietary augmentation with 0.50% DPE might enhance the performance of quail between 14 and 42 days old.Öğe Investigation of the effects of live weight and sex on oxidative stress and antioxidant parameters in healthy geese - preliminary study(Eugen Ulmer Gmbh Co, 2023) Yavuz, E.; Irak, K.; Celik, O. Y.; Bolacali, M.; Ergiden, Y.; Tufan, T.; Gurgoze, S.This study was carried out to determine the effects of live weight and sex on oxidant respective antioxidant status in clinically healthy geese. The total antioxidant level (TAS), total oxidant level (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI), ferric ion reducing agent antioxidant power (FRAP) and Glutathione (GSH) levels were measured in serum samples from a total of 41 geese (18 males and 23 females) at 9 months of age, bred under the conditions of local breeders. While it was determined that live weight and sex had an effect on TOS and FRAP parameters, but it did not affect TAS, OSI and GSH values in geese. A negative relationship between live weight gain and TOS levels was found. It was detected that FRAP levels were higher in female geese than in males (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the relationship between TOS level and live weight of healthy geese should be further investigated and that the FRAP level could be evaluated as an indicator of antioxidant power in healthy geese of different sexes.Öğe Investigation of the protective effect of chitosan against arsenic-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative damage in rat kidney tissue(Polska Akad Nauk, Polish Acad Sciences, Univ Warmia & Mazury Olsztyn, 2024) Irak, K.; Celik, O. Y.; Bolacali, M.; Tufan, T.; Ozcan, C.; Yildirim, S.; Bolat, I.Arsenic is an important metalloid that can cause poisoning in humans and domestic animals. Exposure to arsenic causes cell damage, increasing the production of reactive oxygen species. Chitosan is a biopolymer obtained by deacetylation of chitin with antioxidant and metal ion chelating properties. In this study, the protective effect of chitosan on arsenic -induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative damage was investigated. 32 male Wistar-albino rats were divided into 4 groups of 8 rats each as control group (C), chitosan group (CS group), arsenic group (AS group), and arsenic+chitosan group (AS+CS group). The C group was given distilled water by oral gavage, the AS group was given 100 ppm/day Na-arsenite ad libitum with drinking water, the CS group was given 200 mg/kg/day chitosan dissolved in saline by oral gavage, the AS+CS group was given 100 ppm/day Na-arsenite ad libitum with drinking water and 200 mg/kg/day chitosan dissolved in saline by oral gavage for 30 days. At the end of the 30 -day experimental period, 90 mg/kg ketamine was administered intraperitoneally to all rats, and blood samples and kidney tissues were collected. Urea, uric acid, creatinine, P, Mg, K, Ca, Na, Cystatin C (CYS-C), Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) and Kidney Injury Molecule 1 (KIM -1) levels were measured in serum samples. Malondialdehyde (MDA), Glutathione (GSH), Catalase (CAT) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in the supernatant obtained from kidney tissue were analyzed by ELISA method. Compared with AS group, uric acid and creatinine levels of the AS+CS group were significantly decreased (p<0.001), urea, KIM -1, CYS-C, NGAL, and MDA levels were numerically decreased and CAT, GSH, and SOD levels were numerically increased (p>0.05). In conclusion, based on both biochemical and histopathological-immunohistochemical-immunofluorescence findings, it can be concluded that chitosan attenuates kidney injury and protects the kidney.Öğe Oxidant/Antioxidant Status and Certain Trace Elements Relationship in Hair Goats Naturally Infected by Neospora caninum(Hellenic Veterinary Medical Soc, 2022) Celik, B. A.; Celik, O. Y.; Irak, K.; Bolacali, M.This study was performed to determine the prevalence of Neospora caninum in female hair goats raised in different locations of the Siirt province of Turkey, and to investigate the total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), Zinc (Zn), and Copper (Cu) levels of the infected goats. The animal material of the study consists of a total of 184 female hair goats that are between 1 to 6 years old with the random sampling method. Investigation of the N.caninum antibodies was then performed using a commercial ELISA kit. The results of the ELISA tests reveal that the prevalence of N. caninum in the province of Siirt was 10.33% (19/184) positive, 7.61% (14/184) suspected, and 82.07% (151/184) negative. According to the ELISA test results, 10 seropositive and 10 seronegative sera samples were used in the TAS, TOS, Zn, and Cu analysis. The TAS (p<0.01) and Zn (p<0.001) levels of goats positive with N. caninum were found to be lower compared to those of the seronegative goats, while their TOS and Cu levels were higher (p<0.05). This study was the first to determine the N.caninum prevalence in the goats raised in the province of Siirt. It was concluded that it would be beneficial to take precautionary measures, as well as further studies with larger scopes to be performed which should also involve dogs as the definitive host. Furthermore, the oxidative stress parameters (TAS, TOS) and certain trace elements (Zn, Cu) were found to be affected by Neosporosis, which should be useful in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
