Design and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between October 4 and October 17, 2020. Findings: In this study, it was found that nursing students had a mean total COVID-19 Obsessive Compulsive Scale score of 3.88 +/- 3.02 and a mean total Ways of Coping Inventory (WCI) score of 47.05 +/- 11.68. When the subscales of the WCI were examined, mean scores were found to be 13.64 +/- 4.85 for the self-confident approach, 8.91 +/- 3.35 for the optimistic approach, 7.25 +/- 2.24 for the seeking social support approach, 10.97 +/- 4.43 for the helpless approach, and 6.24 +/- 3.20 for the submissive approach. Practice Implications: Nursing students have low levels of obsession with COVID-19 and moderate levels of coping behaviors. For this reason, it is very important to recognize the psychological symptoms of today's nursing students-the health workforce of the future-and to determine priorities for their solution.Öğe Analysis of the Spiritual Orientations and the Hopelessness Levels of the Patients Diagnosed with COVID-19: A Cross-Sectional Study(Aves, 2022) Buyukbayram, Zeliha; Aksoy, Meyreme; Sayan, GulsenAIM: This study aims to identify the spiritual orientations and hopelessness levels of the patients diagnosed with COVID-19. METHOD: In this study designed as cross-sectional and correlational research, the sample was comprised of 199 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 at a research hospital located in eastern Turkey. Data were collected between December 2020 and January 2021. The research data were collected online by using survey form, the Spiritual Orientation Scale, and Beck Hopelessness Scale to reduce face-to-face interaction due to the isolation policy. The collected data were analyzed via descriptive statistics, the t-test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS: The mean scores obtained by the participant COVID-19 patients from the Spiritual Orientations Scale and the Beck Hopelessness Scale were found, respectively, as 96.13 +/- 20.16 and 6.15 +/- 4.59 points. It was determined that the participants of the study had a high-level of spiritual orientations and low-level hopelessness, and there was a negative correlation between them (p<.05). CONCLUSION: In this study, it was identified that the participant patients diagnosed with COVID-19 had high-level spiritual orientations and low-level hopelessness. It was found that as the participant COVID-19 patients had higher spiritual orientation levels, their hopelessness levels fell. Spirituality can reduce hopelessness by strengthening the coping mechanisms of COVID-19 patients. It can increase the psychological resistance of patients by increasing positive thoughts.Öğe Attitudes of individuals in Eastern Turkey toward epilepsy and the factors associated with these attitudes(Academic Press Inc Elsevier Science, 2021) Turan, Gulcan Bahcecioglu; Aksoy, Meyreme; Ozer, ZulfunazAim: This study was performed to analyze the attitudes of individuals in eastern Turkey toward epilepsy and the factors associated with these attitudes. Methods: Designed as a cross-sectional descriptive study, this study was performed from January 28 to February 8, 2021. A snowball sampling technique was used to select the study sample, and a survey was sent online to individuals aged 18 or above. It is believed that a high sensitivity to disgust among students can negatively affect their academic performance and caregiving behavior. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between nursing students' disgust sensitivity and willingness to care for older adults. Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional research was conducted with 807 volunteer participants studying at the Department of Nursing of a university in southeast Turkey. The research data were collected by using the Personal Information Form, the Disgust Sensitivity Scale - Revised Form (DS-R), and the Willingness to Care for the Elderly Scale (WCES) . Descriptive statistics, the Student's t-test, the Mann-Whitney U test, the One-Way Analysis of Variance, and Pearson's correlation were used in the analysis of research data. Results: In the research, nursing students' mean DS-R and WCES scores were calculated respectively as 77.93 +/- 16.40 and 34.16 +/- 5.98 points. A statistically significant negative relationship was found between nursing students' DS-R and WCES scores (p < 0.05). In the research, there were statistically significant differences in nursing students' mean DS-R scores as per the variables of student gender and class year. Also, it was found that, as per the variables of student nationality and the status of assuming responsibility for the care of a sick or old relative, there were statistically significant differences in both nursing students' mean DS-R scores and their mean WCES scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that nursing students had high-level disgust sensitivity and medium-level willingness to care for an older adult. As the disgust sensitivity of the nursing students increased, their willingness to care for an older adult was negatively affected. Therefore, it is important that nurse educators evaluate nursing students' disgust sensitivity and help nursing students define and eliminate their disgust emotions (c) 2024 Elsevier Inc.
